The basic desert outfit
A loose long-sleeved top and light trousers work in most seasons because they protect against sun and blowing sand without exposing too much skin. Breathable fabrics are more comfortable than heavy denim during warm days. You do not need special “Sahara clothes”; normal travel clothing chosen for sun protection and movement is enough.

What to wear for a camel ride
Long trousers reduce rubbing against the saddle, and secure footwear is better than loose sandals. Avoid very short skirts, very wide flowing fabric that can catch on equipment, and anything you would be upset to get dusty. A scarf is useful for wind but should be tied securely.

Summer clothing
In summer, the goal is sun protection and airflow. Light colors, loose clothing, a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen are more useful than exposing more skin. Schedule activities for early morning or late afternoon and carry water. Even thin fabric can feel hot if it does not breathe.

Winter clothing
Winter days may feel pleasant in the sun, but evenings and sunrise can be genuinely cold. Bring a warm jacket or fleece, long trousers and closed shoes. If you plan to wake for sunrise, dress before leaving the tent because the temperature difference from midday can be large.
Cultural comfort and modesty
Merzouga is used to international travelers, but modest casual clothing is comfortable in villages and local homes. There is no need for visitors to wear traditional clothing. The simplest rule is to dress for sun, movement and respect rather than for a themed photograph.
How to fit this into your Merzouga stay
The dunes are most memorable when you experience more than one light condition. Late afternoon, sunset, night and early morning each make Erg Chebbi feel different, so leave some time unplanned.
A practical rule is to combine one signature dune experience with one contrasting activity and one relaxed period. That balance gives better photos, less fatigue and more room for weather or timing changes.
