What a Merzouga quad ride includes
A typical ride begins with a short controls and safety briefing, then follows a guide onto sand and desert tracks. The route is not a race. Good guides control spacing, choose dunes suitable for the group’s ability and stop at viewpoints. First-time riders usually adapt quickly because the machines are automatic and the pace can be adjusted.

One hour vs longer routes
One hour is the most popular format because it gives enough time for real riding without taking over the day. Longer rides can include flatter desert tracks, wider circuits around Erg Chebbi or stops toward M'Fis and other viewpoints. Choose duration based on whether you want an activity or a half-day expedition.
Single or double quad
A single quad gives each person their own machine. A double quad carries two people, which is useful when one traveler does not want to drive. Comfort varies by machine and terrain, so ask whether passengers can switch with the driver and how the operator handles younger travelers.

Best time of day
Late afternoon is popular because temperatures fall and the light becomes warmer. Early morning is excellent for cooler conditions and quieter tracks. In summer, avoid the hottest middle of the day. Wind can also influence visibility, so local teams may adjust the route.
Safety and clothing
Wear the helmet provided, closed shoes, long trousers if possible and sunglasses or goggles. Keep a scarf available for dust. Do not overtake the guide or drive over a crest when you cannot see the other side. The fastest-looking route is not necessarily the best route; smooth, controlled riding is more enjoyable and safer.
How to fit this into your Merzouga stay
Use quad biking as the active part of the day, not the entire itinerary. A one-hour ride plus a separate cultural or 4x4 experience gives more variety and leaves energy for sunset.
A practical rule is to combine one signature dune experience with one contrasting activity and one relaxed period. That balance gives better photos, less fatigue and more room for weather or timing changes.
