The direct Marrakech to Merzouga drive is very long. Our recommended option is a 2-day private journey with one night in Dades, because it lets you enjoy the High Atlas, Aït Ben Haddou, Ouarzazate, the Valley of Roses and Todra Gorge before you reach the Sahara. The journey becomes part of the holiday instead of a day spent only inside the vehicle.
Distances and driving times are approximate and can change with traffic, weather, road conditions and the stops you choose.

Instead of rushing to the desert, you have time for the main attractions and spend the night in the Dades area.

On the second day you reach Merzouga and connect directly with the 1-night or 2-night Sahara experience you selected.

High Atlas, Aït Ben Haddou, Ouarzazate & the valleys
Your private driver picks you up in Marrakech in the morning. You cross the High Atlas Mountains by the Tizi n'Tichka road, with panoramic stops when practical. Continue to the fortified village of Aït Ben Haddou, where you have time to explore before travelling through Ouarzazate and the landscapes of the Rose Valley toward Dades.
In the evening, check in at your accommodation in the Dades area and rest before continuing to the Sahara the next morning.

Day 2Dades → Merzouga
Tinghir, Todra Gorge & arrival at Erg Chebbi
After breakfast, continue east through the Dades and Tinghir area. Visit Todra Gorge and enjoy time to walk beneath the canyon walls. After lunch on the route, continue through the southeastern landscapes toward Merzouga.
When you arrive, we connect the road journey with your chosen desert package. The exact order of the camel ride, sunset and camp activities is coordinated with your arrival time and the season.

After breakfast and the end of your desert package, your private driver can take you directly to Marrakech. It is a long travel day, but it is practical when sightseeing is already completed.

Can we drive directly from Marrakech to Merzouga in one day?
Yes, a direct private transfer is possible, but it is a very long day. We recommend the two-day route with one night in Dades because it gives you time for the main attractions rather than passing them in a rush.
Why do you recommend sleeping in Dades on the way to Merzouga?
The overnight divides the long road journey and lets you visit the High Atlas, Aït Ben Haddou, Ouarzazate, the valleys and Todra Gorge at a more comfortable pace.
What happens to our luggage during the route and desert stay?
Your luggage travels with the private vehicle. We will explain the practical luggage arrangement for the desert camp in your confirmed program.
Are lunches and attraction tickets included?
Lunches and entrance fees are normally excluded unless your personalized program specifically states otherwise.
Can families with children do this route?
Yes. Because the transport is private, the route is easier to adapt for families, with practical rest stops when needed.
Can we return from Merzouga to Marrakech in one day?
Yes. After the desert package we can return directly to Marrakech in one day. Since the important attractions were visited on the outward journey, we do not recommend repeating them or adding another overnight just for the return.
